A Concrete Tile Bathroom Renovation in Mars Hill, NC
Behind the scenes, thoughtful prep, and a finished space that lives as good as it looks
This bathroom renovation in Mars Hill, North Carolina had so much to love from the start—and even more once you see what went into it behind the scenes.
The patterned concrete floor tile immediately reads like an art installation. It’s bold, graphic, and full of character. But concrete tile is also one of those materials that asks a lot of the installer. It’s porous, sensitive to moisture, and unforgiving if you rush the prep or skip steps.
That’s why some of the most important work on this project never shows up in the final photos.
What You Don’t See (But Absolutely Matters)
Before a single grout line was filled, the concrete tile was pre-sealed. We followed manufacturer specifications for impregnator sealers and prepped the floor specifically for epoxy grout—not because it’s trendy, but because it performs better long-term.
None of this is flashy. But it’s what:
protects the tile surface
keeps stains from setting in
makes everyday cleaning easier
and helps the floor hold up to real life
When it comes to concrete tile, what’s under and within the system matters just as much as what you can see on the surface.
You’ll also notice the heat wire layout beneath the floor. That extra planning shows up later as warm toes on cold winter mornings, a floor that feels inviting instead of shocking, and a bathroom that stays cozy long after the shower steam fades.
It’s the kind of comfort you don’t always think to ask for—but once you have it, you feel it every single day. So worth the investment and extra steps!
The Finished Space
Here’s the finished reveal—and it’s every bit as good as we hoped.
The shower floor is marble, and just like concrete tile, natural stone requires thoughtful prep and proper sealing. These materials are beautiful, but they don’t forgive shortcuts. Done right, they age gracefully and hold up to daily use, moisture, and time. It’s not just about keeping them pretty—it’s about protecting the investment.
One of our favorite details in this space is the shower niche. The diagonal-set tile in the back is having a big moment right now, and we love how it adds texture and visual interest without overpowering the room. Trend-forward, yes—but used intentionally so it still feels timeless.
Why We Do It This Way
This Mars Hill bathroom project is a good example of what we love most about our work: pairing beautiful materials with behind-the-scenes steps that help them last.
Concrete tile, natural stone, heated floors—these are all incredible choices when they’re installed with care. When the planning, prep, and execution line up, the result is a space that doesn’t just photograph well—it lives well.
